Join Galway Civic Trust’s Emma Mulry and Ronan Harvey for a fascinating guided visit to the Zoology and Geology Museums at the University of Galway on Thursday 21 August at 2.00PM.
Housed in the Martin Ryan Building, the Zoology Museum features over 500 specimens, including rare examples collected by Charles Darwin aboard the HMS Beagle. Visitors will also encounter the exquisite “Blaschka” collection — over 100 intricate glass models of marine life, considered both scientific tools and works of art.
The tour includes a close-up experience with live animals such as stick insects, scorpions, tarantulas, lizards, and more — a family-friendly favourite offering hands-on learning about their behaviours, diets, and fascinating adaptations.
The visit also includes a stop at the adjacent Geology Museum, where visitors can explore mineral specimens and fossils from Ireland and around the world.
We meet at The Quadrangle Archway, University of Galway, before taking a short walk to the museums.
Places are limited to 20 and booking is essential.
