A guided walking tour of Medieval Galway. Your tour guide, Brendan McGlinchey, will give you a brief history of the town during the Middle Ages, from its earliest beginnings as a small Gaelic settlement, through to its conquest and development by the Anglo-Norman De Burgos, right up to its heyday in the Late Medieval period, when it was ruled by the wealthy Galway merchants, known as the “Tribes of Galway”.
Locations that will be visited include historical and architectural gems such as the 13th century remains of the Hall of the Red Earl, Blake’s Castle, St. Nicholas’ Collegiate Church, Lynch’s Castle and the old walls of Galway.
The tour starts at the Hall of the Red Earl, beside the office of Galway Civic Trust, on Druid Lane, at 2pm.
