As part of Heritage Week’s 2024 theme of ‘Connections, Routes and Networks’, Galway
Civic Trust is conducting a group tour of the Computer and Communications Museum of
Ireland. Celebrating innovative technology through the decades as part of our more recent
cultural heritage. In the Computer and Communications Museum of Ireland you can explore
and experience the evolving technological landscape across the decades. See early radios,
cameras, telephones and iconic computers, explore vintage games (e.g. ‘Space Invaders’,
Super Mario,‘Pacman’), and early Virtual Reality. This technology, heritage and education
facility is a hit with young and old.

We don’t think of computers and communication devices as historical artefacts, but as their
design and technology advances over time it is fascinating to look back at the evolution of
computing and communications. The Computer and Communications Museum is the only
one of its kind in Ireland. Located at the Data Science Institute/Insight Centre on the
University of Galway’s North Campus, it has a vast collection of radios, telephones, cameras,
classroom equipment and computers including the Morse Key, rotary dial phones, DEC PDP
11, the Apple II, Ninetendo and Sega consoles.
