Galway County Biodiversity Office

Happy National Biodiversity Week 2024!

The opening event of our programme will see John Lusby from Biodiversity Ireland give a talk on the Breeding Birds of Connemara in the Community Centre in Roundstone. You will hear about how the surrounding land supports Golden Plover, Curlew, Merlin, Red Grouse and many other birds, many of which have disappeared from other parts of Ireland. This is a great opportunity to hear one of Ireland’s leading bird experts give an insight to the threats and pressures these birds face.

This talk ties in really well with the Dawn Chorus with John Lusby on Sunday morning, starting at 4.30am where will meet at the Alcock & Brown Landing Site Car Park (Wild Atlantic Way Discovery Point Derrigimlagh) to hear a symphony of bird song as the morning light spreads across the bog. It will be a morning to remember.
These events are supported by Galway County Council and the NPWS through the Local Biodiversity Action fund.
