Galway Civic Trust / Dúchas na Gaillimhe is delighted to announce First Impressions, an inspiring new art exhibition of impressionist works by Galway’s talented local artists.
Hosted at the historic Hall of the Red Earl on Druid Lane, this free exhibition will run throughout the Autumn season, inviting the public to experience the vibrant beauty and creativity of Galway-inspired impressionist art.
The exhibition’s title, First Impressions, draws on the deep connection between Galway and some of Ireland’s most celebrated impressionist painters, including Paul Henry and Charles Lamb. These great artists spent significant periods in Galway, captivated by the region’s unique colours, atmosphere, and landscapes, which infused their works with a distinctly Irish impressionist spirit. Their legacy endures in Galway’s current generation of impressionist artists, who continue to draw inspiration from the rich landscapes and dynamic ambiance of the West of Ireland.
Visitors to the Hall of the Red Earl will find a stunning collection of local artwork that showcases the timeless appeal and expressive freedom of the impressionist style. Complementing the artwork, a series of documentaries will be playing continuously in the lobby, offering insights into the life and works of iconic impressionists like Henry and Lamb, alongside other impressionist masters. These films will enrich the visitor experience, adding layers of understanding to the exhibition.
