On this International Women’s Day, Galway Civic Trust / Dúchas na Gaillimhe are proud to honour the exceptional women in our community who quietly and selflessly contribute to making our society a better place. These women do not seek recognition or praise for their tireless efforts, but their impact is felt far and wide.

We want to acknowledge these remarkable women, even if we cannot mention them by name. They are the ones who give their time, energy, and resources to support local charities, foster children in need, provide voluntary assistance to community organizations, and give generously to international charities.

We would like to pay special tribute to two women who exemplify this spirit of selflessness and generosity. The first is a woman who continues to beg and borrow the hard way with her plastic paint box to support a number of local charities. Her efforts may seem small, but they have a big impact on those who benefit from her contributions.

The second woman we would like to honour is a foster mother who has opened her heart and home to countless babies over the years. She provides them with love and care and hands them back, after a number of weeks, months, or years, to their natural mothers. Her selfless act of fostering has given hope and a bright future to many young lives.

These women, and countless others like them, are the unsung heroes of our community. They embody the values of compassion, empathy, and generosity that make our society strong and vibrant.

On this International Women’s Day, we invite everyone to join us in celebrating these remarkable women. Let us honor them, not only today but every day, by recognizing the important values and support they provide to society in general. Their contributions may be quiet, but they inspire us all.
