As part of Heritage Week’s 2023 theme of ‘Living Heritage’, Galway Civic Trust is conducting a group tour of the Computer and Communications Museum of Ireland. Celebrating innovative technology through the decades as part of our more recent cultural heritage. In the Computer and Communications Museum of Ireland you can explore and experience the evolving technological landscape across the decades. See early radios and iconic computers, and explore vintage games, including ‘Space Invaders’ and ‘Pacman’. This technology, heritage and education facility is a hit with young and old.
We don’t think of computers as historical artefacts, but as their design and technology advances over time it is fascinating to look back at the evolution of computing. The Computer and Communications Museum is the only one of its kind in Ireland. Located in the Insight Centre for Data Analytics on our North Campus, it has a vast array of iconic computers, such as the DEC PDP 11, the Apple II, the Sinclair ZX81 and the Commodore Vic-20.

Visitors can also explore early radios, comics and science fiction posters, and have fun with vintage games like ‘Space Invaders’ and ‘Pacman’. Whether you remember these gadgets or not, you’ll have lots of fun tracing the evolution of technology over the past 100 years.
Our group visit will start at 2pm on Saturday 19 August 2023. Tour is Free of Charge, but please phone Declan on 089 2725548 to confirm attendance, as places are limited per visit.
