Step back into one of the most exciting periods in Galway\u2019s musical history with Eight to Late<\/em>, a unique exhibition at The Peadar O’Dowd Gallery, Hall of the Red Earl, Druid Lane<\/strong>, running throughout the month of August.<\/span><\/p>\n

The exhibition celebrates the vibrant and creative music scene that flourished in Galway during 1988, a pivotal year that left a lasting mark on the city\u2019s cultural identity. It was a time when the internationally renowned Waterboys<\/strong> made their home in Galway and Spiddal, recording two influential albums while immersing themselves in the life and spirit of the west of Ireland. At the same time, a young Saw Doctors<\/strong> were building a devoted following through their residency in the back room of the old Quays Bar, helping to shape a distinctly Galway sound.<\/p>\n

Musicians, artists and audiences gathered in pubs, clubs and venues across the city, creating an atmosphere of collaboration and creativity. The Waterboys, The Saw Doctors, The Stunning<\/strong>, and many other performers shared stages, stories and friendships, contributing to a musical renaissance that is still fondly remembered today.<\/p>\n

Through a collection of paintings by local artists, Eight to Late<\/em> captures the personalities, performances and places that defined Galway\u2019s music scene in 1988. From iconic musicians to memorable venues and fleeting moments of inspiration, the exhibition offers a visual journey into a remarkable chapter of the city\u2019s cultural heritage.<\/p>\n
