Celebrate L\u00e1 na Cruite | Harp Day at the Hall of the Red Earl<\/strong><\/h3>\n

On Saturday, 18th October 2025<\/strong>, Galway Civic Trust is delighted to celebrate L\u00e1 na Cruite | Harp Day<\/strong>, a national day dedicated to Ireland\u2019s iconic musical heritage.<\/p>\n

At 11.00 AM<\/strong>, join us in the Hall of the Red Earl<\/strong> for a special harp performance by Kathleen Loughnane and Catriona Cannon, followed by Maura \u00d3 Cr\u00f3in\u00edn at 1.00 PM<\/strong>.Kathleen, Catriona and Maua will perform a selection of traditional pieces and share their expertise in a talk on early Irish music<\/strong>, exploring the deep roots of our 1,000-year-old harping tradition \u2014 recognised by UNESCO on its List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Following her performance, Maua will take questions from the audience<\/strong>, offering visitors a rare chance to learn more about the instrument that has become a symbol of Irish identity and artistry.<\/p>\n

L\u00e1 na Cruite | Harp Day celebrates the harp through performances, workshops, and pop-up events across Ireland \u2014 inviting everyone to experience the beauty and legacy of our national instrument. We are proud to host this year\u2019s celebration in one of Galway\u2019s most historic venues, the Hall of the Red Earl.<\/p>\n

Galway\u2019s Waterways \u2013 Medieval Galway Tour<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"\"At 2.30 PM<\/strong>, we invite you to take part in a special guided tour and presentation<\/strong> exploring Galway\u2019s Waterways and Medieval Heritage<\/strong>, led by Ian Brophy<\/strong> and Declan O\u2019Shea<\/strong> of Galway Civic Trust<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Depending on the weather, this will take the form of either a walking tour<\/strong> or a virtual presentation<\/strong> showcasing the rich history of Galway\u2019s medieval cityscape and waterways.<\/p>\n

We are particularly pleased to announce that, thanks to funding from Galway City Council under the Local Enhancement Programme 2025<\/strong>, Galway Civic Trust has recently purchased new tour audio equipment<\/strong>. This investment supports our ongoing commitment to accessibility and inclusivity<\/strong>, allowing more people to enjoy our guided tours comfortably.<\/p>\n

For this inaugural inclusive tour, we are working closely with volunteer and community groups<\/strong> around Galway involved in Age Action<\/strong> and Active Retirement<\/strong>, including St. Vincent de Paul<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Places on the tour are strictly limited to 25<\/strong>, and a few spaces are still available<\/strong>.

A New Chapter for Inclusive Heritage Tours<\/strong><\/h3>\n

This tour marks the beginning of a new series of accessible and inclusive heritage experiences<\/strong> that Galway Civic Trust will host on a regular basis.<\/p>\n

We welcome anyone who would like to get involved<\/strong>, whether through volunteering, sharing ideas<\/strong>, or supporting our projects. Together, we can continue to celebrate and preserve Galway\u2019s unique cultural and historical heritage for all.<\/p>\n
